Frequently Asked Questions

What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced “Ray-key”) is a simple Japanese energy-balancing method that is used by hundreds of thousands of people all over the world.  It is more well known as a hands-on-treatment technique, but most “Reiki practitioners” actually use Reiki for their own benefit too, by working with energy and treating themselves!

Where is it from?

Reiki was developed by a man called Mikao Usui in the early 1900s in Japan.  He created a simple self-healing, spiritual development, and treatment system that anyone could use.  Eventually Reiki passed to the West, and it is now practised all over the world.

What can Reiki do for me?

Anyone can benefit from Reiki, whether you learn Reiki for yourself or receive a course of Reiki sessions from a practitioner.  These are some of the things that are possible through Reiki…

  • Deep relaxation
  • Reduced stress and anxiety
  • Boosted energy levels
  • A feeling of inner calm, contentment, and serenity
  • A speeding up of the natural healing process

Reiki may also help you to:

  • Feel more positive, confident, and better able to cope
  • Deal better with stressful people and difficult situations
  • Develop a strong sense of purpose and clearer thinking
  • Remove some of the ‘clutter’ from your life

Learning Reiki

Reiki is simple to learn, and anyone can learn it.  You do not need to have any prior experience of such things and you do not even have to believe in Reiki, it will still work for you!

On an introductory “First Degree” course you will be connected to the energy (“attuned”) and learn how to use Reiki for your own benefit and for others.  You will also learn a simple set of principles to live by set down by Reiki’s founder.  Reiki is not a religion though and it is practised by people from all walks of lie.

Reiki is not a substitute for a medical treatment.  If you have any symptoms of illness, you should see your doctor.  Reiki is safe and will complement any form of complementary therapies or medical treatments.

A Reiki Practitioner will not diagnose or recommend any form of treatment.
